Regional Transportation

The Alexandria regional community is home to a solid mix of passenger, freight, and technological transportation infrastructure that allows for companies to successfully connect with customers and suppliers throughout the world.


State and Interstate Highway Infrastructure:


- The Alexandria community is located on Interstate Highway 94 (providing direct connections to the Minneapolis/St. Paul and Fargo/Moorhead areas and all of the upper Midwest) as well as at the intersection of MN State Highways 29 and 27 (providing north/south and east/west access to communities throughout Minnesota).

- The Alexandria region’s highway system is connected to Minnesota’s 10-ton Highway grid, allowing for the easy transportation of freight throughout the region and state.


Telecommunications Connections:


- The City of Alexandria has a fiber optic telecommunications backbone running through it and providing direct access to cutting edge, high-speed information technology for businesses and individuals.

- Surrounding communities and areas in the Douglas County region are home to fiber optic or high speed internet access. Access is provided by a number of local and national providers.


Alexandria Airport:

  • Chandler Field in Alexandria has two paved runways (5,100 feet long and 4,100 feet long) with an ILS approach for Rwy 39 and VOR/GPS approach for Rwys 31 and 22 along with a repair and fueling facility.
