The Alexandria Lakes Area falls within the territory of a number of entrepreneur/business assistance organizations who provide services free of charge to local businesses and entrepreneurs. Specialties of certain resources vary.




Alexandria Area Economic Development Commission

The Alexandria Area Economic Development Commission works with entrepreneurs and small businesses of all types to successfully plan and start up, identify available facilities and land, bridge commercial financial needs, and provide demographic and statistical information. All of these services and more are completely confidential and provided free of charge to the businesses and residents of Douglas County, MN. In addition, a variety of small business training opportunities are presented by the AAEDC and its partners to provide access to regional experts and information to help business startup and grow successfully. Training program participation normally requires a minimal attendance fee.

SCORE (Service Corps of Retired Executives) – Alexandria Chapter

SCORE mentors to America’s small business, and is a non-profit association dedicated to educating entrepreneurs and helping small businesses start, grow, and succeed. SCORE is a resource partner with the U.S. Small Business Administration. SCORE counselors include both retired and working business executives and leaders with real world experience in starting and growing businesses. Business counseling services are free of charge and confidential.

West Central MN Small Business Development Center

The West Central Minnesota Small Business Development Center (WCSBDC), hosted by the Offutt School of Business at Concordia College, is available to support small businesses in any stage. Our team of consultants provides free information, confidential counseling and one-on-one support to start, build and grow your business. Our services include, but are not limited to, strategic marketing, business planning, franchising, financial projections, market research, expansion, and patent information. We also work with local partners to offer a variety of seminars and workshops throughout the area. We have the tools, templates, training and services to make the process as easy as possible.
